Origin of the name ALLAH.
Etymology of the
Meaning of the baby name ALLAH.
ALLAH (الله). Arabic name meaning "the
God," i.e. "God par excellence." (Notes and
Queries, v.2, Jul-Dec, 1862)
... The Holy City of Islam is
made to appear in the same light thousands of years before the Prophet's
time: here, it is said, the Arabs were united in worship of Allah,
hence they scattered and fell into idolatry, hither they return annually
as pilgrims to a shrine which had been originally dedicated to the One
Supreme Being, but which afterwards became a Pantheon of tribal deities.
