Meaning of the baby name ANDRET.

ANDRET.  French Arthurian legend name of a nephew of king Mark.  Also sometimes called Adrette, Adriette, and Andrette.  So, it would seem to be either from Latin Adrianus/Hadrianus, "from Adria," or from Greek Andreas "man, warrior." (Romanic Review, v.3, 1912)

... And so they rode that time to a lake that was that time called the perillous lake, and there they abode under the shadow of the wood.  The meane while king Marke within the castle of Tintagill avoyded all his barons, and all other, save such that were privie with him, were all avoided out of his chamber.  And then he let call his nephew sir Andret, and bad arme him and horse him lightly, and by that time it was midnight, and so king Marke was armed in blacke, his horse and all, and so at a privy posterne they two issued out with their berlets with them, and rode till they came to the lake.  Then sir Kay espied them first, and gat a speare and profered to just, and king Marke rode against him, and hit each other full hard, for the moone shone as faire as the bright day... (La mort d'Arthure, Malory, 1865)
