Meaning of the baby name ARAKEL.
ARAKEL. From Armenian aragel, meaning "stork," which is said
to be an old Alarodian or Scythic word (comp. πελαργος, probably for an older
gwelarg, garagl). (Proceedings of the Society of Biblical
Tamerlane invaded Karabagh, spreading in his steps death and
devastation, the peasants fled to the mountains, or to the forests,
abandoning their villages and cultivated fields. Many of them
sought and found refuge on the impregnable rock of Thatev, and their
cries of despair filled the courts and the sanctuaries of the
convent. Arakel lived with these people, heard their lamentations,
cursed the invader of his country, and consigned him to damnation. (The
