Origin of the name ARAKEL.
Etymology of the name ARAKEL.
Meaning of the baby name ARAKEL.

ARAKEL.  From Armenian aragel, meaning "stork," which is said to be an old Alarodian or Scythic word (comp. πελαργος, probably for an older gwelarg, garagl). (Proceedings of the Society of Biblical Archaeology, v.21, 1899).

When Tamerlane invaded Karabagh, spreading in his steps death and devastation, the peasants fled to the mountains, or to the forests, abandoning their villages and cultivated fields.  Many of them sought and found refuge on the impregnable rock of Thatev, and their cries of despair filled the courts and the sanctuaries of the convent.  Arakel lived with these people, heard their lamentations, cursed the invader of his country, and consigned him to damnation. (The New Armenia, Howe-Blackwell, 1919)
