HARBERT.  The same as English Herbert (q.v.), from Anglo-Saxon Herebeorht (q.v.), or its  Latin form Herbertus (q.v.), meaning "bright warrior."

    While the sailor, assisted by the engineer, was thus engaged, Gideon Spilett and Harbert were not idle. They had constituted themselves the purveyors of the colony. (Scribner's Monthly Magazine, v.9, 1875)
